La Encantada Restaurant
About This Spot
Stepping into La Encantada Restaurant on Chicago’s North Avenue feels like finding a quiet, colorful retreat where time slows just enough to savor the simple pleasures of a shared meal. The space welcomes you with a warm, unpretentious charm—brightly hued walls and an inviting mix of indoor and outdoor seating, all sprinkled with touches that hint at the rich Mexican heritage behind the kitchen doors. It’s the kind of neighborhood spot where the pace isn’t hurried, and the rhythms of genuine hospitality set the tone.
There’s a comforting authenticity to La Encantada’s atmosphere, one that invites you to lean into the experience rather than rush it. Whether you’re seated beneath string lights outdoors or inside amidst lively colors, the environment feels freshly cared for—clean and vibrant but never overstated. Soft music threads through the background, giving the space a quietly festive air without overwhelming conversation.
At the heart of the experience is the food, which strikes a thoughtful balance between traditional Mexican flavors and approachable familiarities. Dishes arrive with a careful, colorful presentation that reflects a rich culinary culture—from the complexity found in a perfectly seasoned chile en nogada topped with pomegranate seeds to the bright freshness of nopalitos or the satisfying warmth of enchiladas verdes paired with fried plantains. Each plate tells a story of heritage and home cooking, inviting guests to explore beyond the usual and share moments of discovery.
The drink selection complements this quietly curated menu with a range that feels both refreshing and celebratory—imagine enjoying a vibrant mango margarita or a carefully mixed mojito that matches the pace of the evening, whether lingering in the dining room or picking up a margarita to-go for a relaxed night elsewhere.
What stands out most is the subtle attentiveness of the service, which moves with the mood of the place: friendly and professional without being intrusive. It’s clear that this is a space rooted in respect for both the food and the people who come to enjoy it, a comfortable anchor that draws locals and visitors alike back for more moments of light-hearted, flavorful connection.

The place is excellent! Service is friendly, professional, and just superb! Ambiance feels simple yet enticing full of colors indoors and outdoors feels clean and fresh. Food flavors and visuals are five stars. My Quesadilla was excellent, mostly because of that flour tortilla. My Chile En Nogada, the reason for my visit was delicious, flawless. From the sauce to the pomegranate and the filling, everything was tasteful. Loved my experience there.

Good food with nice décor, can eat inside and can also order ahead to pick up, good service and fast. For take out, the Tortilla soup came with the tortillas inside the soup so when I got home they were soggy, other places give you the tortillas on the side for that reason so I didn't eat that. No napkins or utensils given for take out as well. As for eating in, the service was good, the enchiladas were also good either the green, red and the mole. Paid parking in front of the restaurant, they do have a covered patio in the back. In the restaurant they do have nice paintings that decorate it well. they do not accept credit cards, they do accept other forms such as cash.

Ordered enchiladas verdes con platanos fritos (and a horchata). It was all really good - I love plantains, but I was expecting green fried plantains, not ripe fried plantains. I will eat either, but having savory plantains with a savory entree would have melded better in my own opinion. Our waitress was courteous and I will probably go back to try other meals!

Very intimate place. The chicken enchilada was pretty good. The potatoes enchiladas were not the highlight. The chopped up potatoes were a bit hard. The rice was bit hard. However, the service was amazing the music just went along really well with the scene. I wouldn't go back but its a cute little time.

Fantastic atmosphere. The food is always fresh and very flavorful. The enchiladas are my go to dish. The steaks and fajitas are great. Bartender makes a killer mango margarita.

Amazing dinner I had Chile en Nogada for the first time and you can taste the love that Irma put into this dish. We will be back.

Wonderfully inviting and quiet atmosphere; great, personalized service; good food all around. We enjoyed mole enchiladas with spinach, and rellenos with zucchini and onions. Prices reasonable - $20 - $32/person. Found this while driving on North Ave on a Sunday night. Highly recommended; we will return!

What a hidden gem! Beautiful decor, amazing food & service. My husband and I had the guacamole and shrimp, steak, and chicken tacos. We have a new neighborhood favorite- highly recommend!!
